What exactly is the kingdom of God?

The “Kingdom of God” that Jesus proclaimed is not merely a political kingdom that will arrive someday in the future. It is the good news that God is already at work, restoring His reign among people here and now.

John the Baptist and the prophets expected a future moment when God would intervene powerfully and destroy evil. They called people to repentance in preparation for that day. But Jesus reveals something deeper: God has never abandoned the world; it is humanity that has drifted away from God.

Therefore, the Kingdom of God begins not through armies or political revolution, but through the transformation of the human heart.

Where people:

  • turn back to God,
  • forgive instead of retaliate,
  • love instead of hate,
  • show mercy,
  • and walk in truth,

there the Kingdom of God is already active.

“Repentance” is not merely feeling sorrow for sin. It is a transfer of allegiance — moving from the rule of fear, pride, violence, and selfishness into the loving reign of the Father.

Jesus’ ministry — healing the sick, restoring sinners, welcoming outcasts, and proclaiming good news to the poor — are all signs that God’s Kingdom has already begun.

John was a great prophet because he prepared the way. But Jesus’ message goes even further: God is not waiting to begin ruling in the future; He has always been the true ruler of the world. The problem is not God’s unwillingness to save, but humanity’s separation from Him.

So when Jesus says, “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is near,” He means:

God is not far away. The door is already open. Those who turn toward Him can begin living in His Kingdom even now.



യേശു പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച “ദൈവരാജ്യം” എന്നത് ഭാവിയിൽ മാത്രം ഒരിക്കൽ വരാനിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു രാഷ്ട്രീയ സാമ്രാജ്യമല്ല; ദൈവം ഇപ്പോൾ തന്നെ മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഇടയിൽ തന്റെ ഭരണം പ്രവർത്തിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന സുവിശേഷമാണ്.

യോഹന്നാൻ സ്നാപകനും മറ്റു പ്രവാചകന്മാരും ദൈവം ഭാവിയിൽ ശക്തിയായി ഇടപെട്ട് ദുഷ്ടതയെ നശിപ്പിക്കും എന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചു. അവർ മാനസാന്തരത്തിനായി ജനങ്ങളെ തയ്യാറാക്കി. എന്നാൽ യേശു അതിലും ആഴമുള്ള ഒരു സത്യം വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു: ദൈവം ലോകത്തെ വിട്ടുകളഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല; മനുഷ്യരാണ് ദൈവത്തിൽ നിന്ന് അകന്നുപോയത്.

അതിനാൽ ദൈവരാജ്യം തുടങ്ങുന്നത് സൈന്യങ്ങളിലൂടെയോ രാഷ്ട്രീയ വിപ്ലവത്തിലൂടെയോ അല്ല, മനുഷ്യഹൃദയത്തിന്റെ രൂപാന്തരത്തിലൂടെയാണ്.

ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ:

  • ദൈവത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിയുമ്പോൾ,
  • ക്ഷമിക്കുമ്പോൾ,
  • സ്നേഹിക്കുമ്പോൾ,
  • കരുണ കാണിക്കുമ്പോൾ,
  • സത്യത്തിൽ നടക്കുമ്പോൾ,

അവിടെ ദൈവരാജ്യം പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു.

“മനസാന്തരം” എന്നത് പാപത്തിൽ ദുഃഖിക്കുന്നത് മാത്രമല്ല; ഭയം, അഹങ്കാരം, ഹിംസ, സ്വാർത്ഥത എന്നിവയുടെ ആധിപത്യത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സ്നേഹഭരണത്തിലേക്ക് മാറുന്നതാണ്.

യേശുവിന്റെ ശുശ്രൂഷ—രോഗശാന്തി, പാപികളുടെ പുനഃസ്ഥാപനം, ദരിദ്രർക്കുള്ള സുവിശേഷം—ഇവ എല്ലാം ദൈവരാജ്യം ആരംഭിച്ചുകഴിഞ്ഞുവെന്ന അടയാളങ്ങളാണ്.

യോഹന്നാൻ വലിയ പ്രവാചകനായിരുന്നു, കാരണം അദ്ദേഹം വഴി ഒരുക്കി. പക്ഷേ യേശുവിന്റെ സന്ദേശം അതിലും അപ്പുറത്തേക്കാണ് പോകുന്നത്: ദൈവം ഭാവിയിൽ മാത്രം ഭരിക്കാനിരിക്കുന്നവൻ അല്ല; അവൻ എപ്പോഴും ഭരിക്കുന്നു. മാറേണ്ടത് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയം അല്ല, മനുഷ്യന്റെ ഹൃദയമാണ്.

അതുകൊണ്ട് “ദൈവരാജ്യം സമീപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്നതിന്റെ അർത്ഥം: ദൈവം ദൂരെയല്ല. വാതിൽ തുറന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇപ്പോൾ തന്നെ ദൈവത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിഞ്ഞ് ജീവിക്കുന്നവർ അവന്റെ രാജ്യത്തിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കാം.
